Dear Families,
Welcome to Second Grade in Room 13! My name is Jenny Orduño. This is my 18th year in 麻豆社区. I am thrilled to be your child’s teacher and am looking forward to an exciting and productive year. I have a wonderful family of my own, which includes my husband, Miguel, and my children Sophia (9), Olivia (8), MJ (5), and Juliana (19 months). In my spare time, I love camping, reading, exercising, and spending time with friends and family. I have a great passion for teaching and a love of learning!
I would also like to introduce Loretta Walker, our student teacher. She will be with us for 12 weeks and is full of energy and enthusiasm! We have a very full schedule planned for your 2nd grader. We look forward to working with you to create a happy, successful year for your child.
To insure a pleasant learning environment for every student in room 13, the following school-wide rules have been put into place:
- Be kind: Show kindness in everything you do and say.
- Be safe: Be aware of your own personal space and your actions.
- Be productive: Do what needs to be done without being told, take risks and challenge yourself.
We use many rewards and incentives for good behavior as we feel positive reinforcement is the most successful and effective form of classroom discipline. Please let your child know that you support these rules and standards.
The classroom rules are reinforced with Class Dojo, and online classroom management system. Please sign up for Class Dojo, so you can receive weekly updates about your child’s progress and participation. (See the attached invite sheet). Students will also earn Falcon Tickets towards class drawings and privileges.
HOMEWORK FOLDER
Each child will receive a green folder with two pockets inside labeled “Leave at Home” and “Return to School”. It is very important that this folder accompany them to school every day.
HOMEWORK
Homework in second grade consists of math and reading. Students will have math homework 3 days a week (T, W, Th) that will be due the following day. Students will be expected to read at least 20 minutes each night. Students will also complete some ST Math at home. There will be a reading log sent home each Monday. Please record minutes read and initial each night. We expect a minimum of 100 minutes of reading per week. The completed Reading Log is due the following Monday.
PARENT VOLUNTEERS
Parents are the most important people in their child’s life. You are always welcome in the classroom to help or observe. We only ask that you postpone your visits until we are able to get settled in our routines. The Room Parent(s) and I will be notifying parents when we are ready for volunteers. Our Room Parent will get a Volunteer calendar out shortly after Curriculum Night.
SCHOOL TIMES
School begins promptly at 8:00 am. It is extremely important to be at school on time. Fuerte’s morning walking club and student supervision begins at 7:45 am. All students on campus MUST go down to the lower field before school. School is dismissed at 2:00 pm. It is important for you and your child to have a plan for the end of the day. Students not picked up by 2:15 pm will be taken to the lunch tables to insure their safety.
BIRTHDAYS
Students are welcome to bring in something to share with the class. It’s important to check with us before sending anything in. We highly recommend a small healthy treat or novelty item/gift that everyone can enjoy (please limit sweets & try for a healthier alternative). Please send a note or an email ahead of time so we can be prepared. Birthdays will be celebrated when time allows.
Please contact me with any questions! I will go over everything in detail at Curriculum Night. I look forward to a fabulous year!
Sincerely,
Jenny Orduno
